Police arrested four men after a car chase that ended in a crash on I-465 on the Northwestside Monday afternoon.
The pursuit began after Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a home invasion robbery at 2:21 p.m. at in the 6000 block of Ruskin Place West, near 38th Street and High School Road. A 13-year-old boy had reported his home was being robbed.
When police arrived, they saw a blue SUV with four people inside speeding away.
Two detectives from the violent crime unit, Sgt. Garth Schwomeyer and Detective Jean Deddish, spotted and followed the suspects’ car as it turned onto I-465 southbound.
The detectives kept the vehicle in sight until uniformed officers in marked patrol cars took over, IMPD spokesman Sgt. Paul Thompson said. The suspects’ vehicle fled as police tried to make a traffic stop.
“The pursuit continued for several minutes on I-465 to 71st Street, through several neighborhoods, and ultimately ended up in a crash on I-465 southbound,” Thompson said.
Three of the men were caught, but the fourth escaped for a brief time before getting captured.
Before he was apprehended, police said that suspect pointed a gun at a 9-year-old boy and stole his bicycle in the 2000 block of Parson Drive.
The suspects range in age from 18 to 20, police said. Police did not release the suspects’ names.
