IU cornerback to have knee surgery

by Terry Hutchens on November 03, 2009

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University senior cornerback Ray Fisher will have minor knee surgery Wednesday and has been ruled out of Saturday’s game with Wisconsin.

But IU coach Bill Lynch said the surgery does not necessarily mean Fisher is out for the season, despite the fact only three regular-season games remain. Lynch stressed that the surgery was minor in nature.

After Saturday’s game with Wisconsin, IU closes the regular season against Penn State and Purdue the next two weeks.

Fisher injured his knee on the opening kickoff against Iowa last week and did not return. In the second half he was on the sideline in street clothes.

Also listed as out for Indiana this week are defensive end Darius Johnson (shoulder); defensive back Chris Adkins (elbow); and defensive tackle Jarrod Smith (back).

Starting tailback Darius Willis (ankle) and safety Nick Polk (ankle) are both listed as questionable.
